Convicted man being sued by victim's family

HALLSBURG, TX (KXXV) -

The 18-year-old Hallsburg man who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting his 15-year-old girlfriend is now being sued. The family of the victim is filing a civil suit against James Lee Saulters.

It is unclear what exactly they are seeking. Saulter's family members are also named as defendants.

Saulters was sentenced back in early December, after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, deadly violence for the December 2011 shooting. His girlfriend at the time was shot in the head while they were sitting in Saulters truck.

Saulters must serve at least half of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
