Killeen-Fort Hood drops in recent economic growth rankings

A report from the Milken Institute recently dropped the Killeen-Fort Hood area from number five to number 62 on its list of best-performing cities. Each year the organization puts out a report measuring the economic growth of municipal areas.

Just two years ago the Killeen-Fort Hood area was number one in the nation. News Channel 25 spoke to the research group about the drop.

"It's difficult for metros to kind of sustain growth like this on an annual basis and that is really what it comes down to and anytime you have defense cuts to a program," Milken Institute Sr. Economist Armen Bedroussian said. "You know those spikes that you see on a yearly basis can quickly kind of subside."

The Milken Institute says the area needs more of an industrial diversity and should look into the booming technology industries taking place in Austin and Dallas.
