BELL COUNTY -
A Bell County man who stole more than $100,000 from the Red Cross is going to prison for ten years. David Allen Gilg III made 84 fictitious claims between January and September of 2012.
Gilg was working with the Killeen-Fort Hood American Red Cross on West Avenue "A" when the administrators noticed the irregularities and started investigating.
Red Cross officials became suspicious after reviewing disaster response records. They determined claims were being made involving fictitious clients. After finding more fictitious claims, the matter was turned over to the Killeen Police Department.
Police say Gilg would receive debit cards issued for those claims and then keep the money for himself. Each claim was for between $1,000 and $2,000.
