ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Texas Rangers and pitcher Neftali Feliz have agreed to a 1-year contract for the 2013 season.
In a statement Thursday night, the Rangers said no terms would be disclosed. The deal leaves outfielder David Murphy as the last Ranger eligible for salary arbitration still unsigned.
The 24-year-old right-hander was 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in eight games in 2012, including seven starts, before he was shut down on May 19 with right elbow inflammation. He had "Tommy John" ligament replacement surgery Aug. 1 and will open the 2013 season on the disabled list.
Feliz was the Rangers' closer in 2010-11 with 72 saves in 134 appearances. He earned the 2010 American League Rookie of the Year Award with what was a major league rookie record of 40 saves.
