Arrest made in former soldier's death

KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) -

A 23-year-old man has been arrested for the death of a former Fort Hood soldier. Douglas Maximus Heffernan has been charged with aggravated assault for the incident that occurred on Wednesday January 16.

The shooting happened at the 3500 block of Pebble Street at 1:18 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.  He was immediately airlifted to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police say three males were inside the living room when one of the males was handling a revolver in an unsafe manner, caused a negligent discharge of the gun and shot the victim in the head.

The Bell County District Attorney's Office charged Heffernan with aggravated assault and set his bond at $500,000. He is currently in the Bell County Jail

On Saturday medical personnel with the Scott & White Memorial Hospital pronounced the victim, Jack Tullos Tennyson, dead at 4:39pm.

This case continues to be investigated by Killeen police.
