A woman is being held at a McLennan county jail and is facing several charges, including one where police say--she dropped her baby to run from them.
Police say Britney Deckard, 27, was stopped by Bellmead authorities on the 1400 block of Old Dallas Highway Saturday afternoon. Officers approached the car and smelled marijuana from the vehicle.
Police asked Deckard to exit the vehicle along with her one-year-old infant to conduct a search. While the search was underway, dispatchers reported to police Deckard had multiple suspensions for driving without a license. Authorities also found a bag of pot in the car.
Deckard refused an arrest and dropped her infant to take off running from police. After police checked to make sure the baby was unharmed, they used a taser gun on Deckard to stop her, according to authorities.
She is being charged on several accounts including driving on a suspended license, resisting an arrest and for dropping her child, police say.
EMS checked both the infant and Deckard to make sure there were no injuries.
The infant is currently in the custody of the father and Child Protection Services has been notified.
