1. Tell your children you love them.
Children should grow up knowing they are loved and cherished. This will help them grow up in to more well-rounded people who are more open to treating others kindly.

2. Ask open-ended questions.
Find out what is going on in your children’s lives. Ask open-ended questions, such as, “What is the best and worst thing that happened to you today?” Questions like these give you insights into what your children are thinking so you can better attend to their needs.

3. Sit down for one meal together.
Hectic schedules can prevent parents from spending enough time with children. Shut off all electronics and spend time talking together at breakfast, lunch, dinner or all three meals! If this is impossible, take 15 minutes and eat a bowl of popcorn together to chat.

4. Save a little bit of money.
Teach your children the value of money. Even if you are just putting a quarter in a piggy bank, show your children that you don’t have to spend everything you earn.

5. Hug your children.
Touch is extremely important for children’s emotional development. Research shows that hugs may even help your children learn, improve their memory and even respond better to stress.
