A University High School quarterback has been arrested for sexual assault after an incident that occurred Friday evening.
A female victim told police that she had been visiting with Charles Johnson III at his residence in the 2400 block of South 12th St. at about 11:00 p.m. The victim said she was sitting in a vehicle with Johnson in front of his residence when Johnson sexually assaulted her.
The victim was able to leave and contacted police to report the assault. Officers then went to the suspect's home and took Johnson into custody after 1:30 a.m. Johnson bonded out after he was booked into jail.
Waco Independent School District released a statement about Johnson's arrest. The statement said, "Waco ISD and University High School are extremely disappointed and concerned that one of our student athletes was arrested over the weekend. The goal of our athletic program is to teach the skills necessary to participate and compete in sports, but we also strive to instill the values of leadership, good behavior, mutual respect, camaraderie and community service."
