Man caught stealing 30 water meter covers

WACO -

A local man has been arrested and charged with stealing water meter covers along several blocks of Austin Avenue. Police believe James Jeffcoat was planning on selling the meter covers for scrap.

Police spotted the man pushing a shopping cart loaded with 30 heavy metal plates at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of Washington Ave. When an officer stopped to check on him and noticed the heavy load in the shopping cart.

Jeffcoat is now being charged with theft over $1500.
