Convicted Temple man charged for strangulation

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

A Temple man already on parole from state prison has been arrested on charges of trying to choke his girlfriend. Police were called to the 1600 block of Case Ave Saturday night on a disturbance call involving Michael Paul Cortez and his girlfriend.

Police say a dispute with Cortez and his girlfriend led to an assault that injured the victim. Authorities say Cortez allegedly put his hands around the victim's throat and impeded her ability to breathe.

Cortez remains in the Bell County Jail and cannot be released on bond.
