HEARNE -
The Texas Rangers and the Hearne Police are investigating a shooting where a Hearne man was shot and killed by police early Sunday morning.
Police say just before three on Sunday morning, officers responded to a call about a large group of people in a parking lot at the Columbus Village Apartment complex in Hearne. Police say they later found there were three people in a car firing a weapon.
Then police say they got to the parking lot and found the people in the car. What happened next is unclear, but police say, "There was an Officer involved shooting resulting in the death of a subject."
The family has identified that person as 28-year-old Tederalle Satchell. Satchell's mother, Fledia Satchell, says he was a great person and was also mentally handicapped.
"I love him. I miss him, I miss my baby," Satchell said. "He was 28 years old but he was just like a young kid."
Satchell says she has not talked with police and still doesn't know exactly what happened or why the officer shot her son. The family says Tederalle did not own a gun and witnesses say he was unarmed when he was shot.
"Why did they have to shoot him in his head," Satchell said. "Why they didn't have to do that, only thing they had to do if they wanted to make him stop running, they just could have shot him in the leg or something."
Tederalle Satchell's aunt says another thing that bothered them was that Tederalle's body was uncovered at the crime scene for over six hours while police investigated the area.
"We asked them, could ya'll please just cover him up, the kids are about to get up," Yulanda Nelson said. "They said ma'am just stay back this is a crime scene, we have to treat it as a crime scene."
The family says they just want justice after what happened to Tederalle. Hearne PD says they have the Texas Rangers to assist in the investigation to see if there was any wrong doing with the shooting.
However, Satchell has not been able to talk with police and says she doesn't know where Tederalle's body is. She says she called the local funeral home, but they say it's not there. She says she just wants to know what happened to her son.
"If anybody, anyone ya'll listen to me, please anybody know anything please come forward. Help me and my family," Satchell said.
