Central Texas teachers take advantage of free gun classes

Posted:
AXTELL -

A Central Texas handgun instructor has begun giving gun lessons to teachers in Axtell. It has been three weeks since the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, and since then there have been a wide array of solutions suggested including a ban guns to arming everyone.

Since the December 14 shooting, lawmakers and 2nd amendment supporters have been pushing to arm teachers. One of those people is Johnny Price with Big Iron Concealed Handgun Training.

Johnny Price believes that one concealed handgun owner could have stopped the shootings in Aurora, Colorado and in Newton. So Price is now offering free concealed handgun classes for all teachers and staff here in Central Texas.

"Let the teachers take care of it, train them, let them understand," Price said. "But its not about the guns, its about being aware."

This weekend more than 60 people, mostly teachers, showed up to the Axtell B-B-Q Range for classes. Price knows teachers aren't allowed to carry now, but he hopes if that day comes, these teachers will have the necessary skills.

"I'd sleep good at night knowing they are safe because I can't be at every door or outside in the parking lot waiting when my grandchild goes to school, or these parents when they go to school," Price said. "But I'll sleep good because that teacher will do the right thing."

After the prosecution rested just before 11 a.m., it was the defense's turn to call up witnesses. Petetan's attorney's stressed to the jury that they were...More >>
