Multiple fires damage several Waco homes

Posted:

One vacant home is destroyed and two others are damaged in three separate overnight fires.

The first fire started at 927 N. 17th Street when firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. An old, two story wood frame house was destroyed by the fire, and one of the houses next to it received some minor damage from the smoke and flames.

The fire is still smoldering Friday morning, and fire crews will be bringing in a backhoe later to break up the rubble and extinguish it. Authorities will investigate the cause of the fire the rubble is extinguished.

The second fire occurred at a home in the 1800 block of N. 6th Street around 1:30 a.m. The fire appeared to have started at the back of the vacant house.

30 minutes later a third fire started at a house on Proctor and 5th Street. Firefighters working the N. 6th Street fire saw the house burning and called in another alarm themselves. The house was unoccupied and there were no injuries.

Both morning fires are under investigation.
