Man threatens clerk with box cutter, attempts to evade arrest on foot

A man attempts to hold up a Cameron convenience store with a box cutter before leading an officer on a foot chase on Tuesday. Marvin Charles Williams has been arrested and charged with evading arrest for an incident at Mike's Convenience Store on the 1000 block of North 4th.

One officer responded as the theft was in progress. When the officer arrived Williams was threatening the store attendant with a box cutter knife.

The officer attempted to detain and arrest the Williams, but he fled the scene on foot and chase ensued. The officer attempted to use a taser on the suspect, but was unsuccessful. Williams then attempted to take the weapon away from the officer.

Another officer arrived as backup and physically combated the suspect. The backup officer was able to successfully use a taser on Williams and subdue him.

Williams was then transported to the Milam County Jail. He had previously been investigated by police for similar thefts and had numerous previous arrests. Williams was also charged with tampering with evidence, attempting to take a weapon away from a peace officer, and resisting arrest.
