A new eBook has just been released on the Amazon Kindle bookstore to reach out to people who have loved ones diagnosed with clinical depression. Gathering psychological research and real life experiences, the book launches in December, a season where families get together and relationships are renewed.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) December 19, 2012

Gathering psychological research and real life experiences, “The Pillar of Strength – How to Free Your Loved One from Depression,” aims to show people how to provide emotional support to their loved ones battling depression.

Felix Freeman, also a member of the British Psychological Society, had first-hand experience during his father’s struggle through depression and eventually came up with the idea of publishing an eBook to help others through the ordeal.

“My father had a strong influence on my pursuit of psychology in university. I was able to apply my knowledge in helping him get better. But not everyone knows what to do and what to say when a loved one is diagnosed with depression, which is why I wrote this book,” explains Freeman.

While it is important to provide strong emotional support to a loved one undergoing treatment and therapy, he cautions that an emotional dependence may be formed. The supporting party may feel worn out as an emotional crutch that can strain a previously healthy relationship, Freeman warns.

The Pillar of Strength aims to show people how to give adequate care and encourage an optimistic view of life. While it may seem difficult to keep up a positive attitude all the time, the book hopes to help loved ones empathize with their depressed loved one.

By learning to put themselves in the shoes of the depressed, supporting family members and friends will know better what to say or do to encourage a mood improvement.

“I never had someone or a book telling me what to say or do when my father had depression. I made some mistakes that hurt our relationships along the way. I hope I can help people avoid them,” concludes Freeman.
