Airport Given All-Clear After Being Evacuated

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

The all-clear was given to Temple's Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport around 7:40 p.m.

Temple Fire Department spokesman, Thomas Pechal, said Temple Police and Fire responded to the airport around 3:45 p.m. Pechal said "a suspicious item" was found somewhere on the far west end of the airport property, away from the terminal and hangar.

Several dozen employees were evacuated and moved a safe distance away from the area. One of the airport's two terminals was also shut down.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal team from Fort Hood came out to examine the item and determined it was non-hazardous. The item is believed to be equipment left behind by a sub-contractor.
