MCLENNAN COUNTY -
A convicted felon and registered sex offender is accused of sexually assaulting a 12 year-old girl at a home near Bruceville-Eddy.
Captain Kenneth Vanek with the McLennan County Sheriff's Office said John Schwarck, 40, turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Vanek said the sexual assault happened in May of 2011 at a subdivision near Bruceville-Eddy. An arrest affidavit signed by McLennan County Justice of the Peace, Kristi DeCluitt, said the 12 year-old girl was lying on the couch when Schwarck, "asked if she wanted a full body massage." The affidavit said Schwarck gave the girl a massage despite her refusal, pulled off her clothes and sexually assaulted her.
Capt. Vanek said the alleged abuse came to light after the girl told a friend about what happened. Child Protective Services investigated the case and contacted the McLennan County Sheriff's Office.
Vanek said Schwarck was a registered sex offender and had been convicted in a previous sexual assault case involving another 12 year-old victim. According to public court records, Schwarck has three previous felony convictions.
Records show Schwarck pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault in 2000. He also failed to comply with sex offender registration requirements twice; once in 2006, and again in 2012. The arrest affidavit for the latest incident noted "a pattern of consistency."
Schwarck was booked in to the McLennan County Jail around 10:30 a.m. Monday. He was charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child Under 14, a 1st degree felony. His bond was set at $30,000.
