Copperas Cove ISD schools to re-open Monday

COPPERAS COVE -

All Copperas Cove Independent School District schools will re-open December 17. This news comes three days after campuses were closed while district administrators and Copperas Cove police reviewed security, emergency procedures and investigated the recent bomb threat.

All campuses have been swept and cleared, significant assets deployed and security measures taken. Students, parents and guardians of Copperas Cove High School, Copperas Cove Junior High and S.C. Lee Junior High have been notified about operations on Monday morning.

Students were told they should pack light, only bringing what is necessary to classes. Also they should expect to wait longer periods of time to enter school.

The CCISD Board of Trustees met on December 14 in a closed session to discuss the measures taken during the three days campuses were closed. They approved all actions, expenses and future plans for heightened security.

On December 13, more than 600 Copperas Cove High School students attended tutorials with more than 50 teachers at Grace United Methodist Church.

There have been nine bomb threats reported to the Copperas Cove Independent School District, beginning December 4. During all nine incidents, the Copperas Cove Police Department responded and assisted the district in evacuating buildings and assuring the safety of all students.

There were no injuries reported and no explosive devices were located during the examinations of the buildings. As of December 12, four of the nine cases had detentions made, with eight juveniles being charged with the offenses.
