AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Javan Felix scored a career-high 20 points and distributed seven assists and Texas overcame a poor shooting performance to beat Texas State 75-63 on Saturday night at the Erwin Center.
Texas (6-4) shot just 39.7% from the floor compared to the Bobcats, which shot 34.5%. The Longhorns did hit 17 of their 21 free throws while Texas State converted just 18 of its 30 chances from the line.
Felix, a freshman point guard, scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half and took over the game in the final six minutes with the Bobcats within four at 58-54.
Jonathan Holmes added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Texas, Julien Lewis scored 13 points and Sheldon McClellan added 10.
Matt Staff led Texas State (4-6) with 15 points and Reid Koenen added 10, all in the second half for the Bobcats.
