Local schools take precautions in light of Connecticut shooting

Local schools take precautions in light of Connecticut shooting

In light of today's attack, many Central Texas schools are taking precautions of their own.

We found a number of local districts immediately began practicing safety drills and adding security to their campuses.

Representatives from different school districts say they take their safety measures very seriously when it comes to protecting children and staff.

Killeen ISD and Belton ISD representatives said their districts have reviewed their emergency plans and procedures with faculty members to insure that they are being followed and are ready to be implemented if necessary.

Temple ISD has added more officers to secure the area once school was let out. Midway ISD and Waco ISD is responding to the shooting by doing the same, reviewing their safety measures.

Midway ISD released a statement, saying: "We are shocked and grieved, our hearts go out to the families, loved ones and school communities in Connecticut. We will continue to be vigilant in our efforts for emergency plans and safety procedures to protect our children."

For many of our school districts here the horrific shooting in Connecticut is a reminder that the rules for safety are put in place for a reason.
