COPPERAS COVE – Despite canceling classes for the remainder of the week, administrators at the Copperas Cove Independent School District offered off-campus classes.
More than 150 high school students showed up, Thursday, to the Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove to attend the first of two day tutorials being offered to students.
Students were able make up work they missed during the evacuations and cancellation of classes that occurred during the past two weeks of bomb threats.
District officials were forced to close the schools for the rest of the week after they received nine bomb threats in eight days at their junior high and high school.
Despite keeping the classroom closed, administrators didn't want to punish the students who still wanted to learn.
"I got a call late last night about this tutorial and my daughter encouraged us, she was like look I don't want to get too far behind so can I go," Jeff Jennings said.
Jennings daughter is a junior at Copperas Cove High School, and like her many students wanted to show up to make sure they didn't get left behind in their classes.
Most students said they just wanted to keep up with their grades.
"I want to be exempt, because juniors and seniors are able to be exempt if they have a high B or A in their class and they don't miss any days of school," junior Charmarie Holt said.
Despite the unconventional way of learning, most students said the day was a success.
"It's a lot more laid backed then usual tutorial would be at school I mean people have drinks and stuff. It is a little loud because there are a lot of people in thee but we are getting our work done its really all that matters," senior Grayson Wagner said.
