School evacuates students after third bomb threat

COPPERAS COVE -

Copperas Cove Junior High School was evacuated after a written bomb threat was found at the school for the second time in three days. The threat was found written on a girl's bathroom wall.

Five bomb sniffing dogs from Fort Hood began searching the building soon after the bomb threat was reported. Students were not dismissed, and classes were to resume once the building was cleared.

Students were evacuated to Bulldawg Stadium.

Copperas Cove ISD spokeswoman, Olga Pena, said administrators are taking this seriously and that once they find the students responsible they will face serious consequences.

Investigators said they are looking over surveillance video to check and see who went in and out of the girls bathroom. The school plans on closely monitoring the cameras going forward and is considering having a monitor in each of the bathrooms.

Copperas Cove Police are also involved in the investigation. The department said a threat like this is categorized as a terroristic threat and because it is in a school is considered a 3rd degree felony.

The student or students caught could face up to 10 years behind bars and up to a $10,000 fine, even though they could be minors.

This is the third day in a row the Copperas Cove Independent School District (CCISD) was forced to deal with a bomb threat at one of their schools.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday at Copperas Cove Junior High when someone reported the threat was written on the bathroom wall. A K-9 Unit then searched the building later that evening.

On Wednesday, administrators at Copperas Cove High School said they were notified by students that someone had left a bomb threat on the walls of a bathroom stall around 10:45 a.m.

School administrators eventually told students about the bomb threat and canceled class for the day. Once all students left the campus, the Fort Hood K-9 Unit began their sweep of the school. Investigators cleared Copperas Cove High School at 2:45 p.m.

School district officials are offering a reward to anyone with information leading to the detention or arrest of the individual and or individuals responsible for this threat.
