UMHB Football to Face Mount Union in National Semifinals

From the UMHB Athletic's Department:

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will travel to Alliance, Ohio this weekend to face top-ranked Mount Union in the Semifinals of the NCAA Division III National Championships. That game will kick off at 1:00 PM Central Time on Saturday with a berth in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl on the line. The 2nd-ranked Cru is in the national semifinals for the first time since 2008 and for the fourth time in the 15-year history of the program. Mount Union has been to seven straight Stagg Bowls and will be playing its 90th NCAA Division III postseason game on Saturday. Saturday's game will be just the second meeting between the Cru and Purple Raiders. UMHB topped Mount Union 38-35 in the 2004 semifinals in Alliance in the last home playoff loss for the Purple Raiders. With the consensus top two teams in the country facing off, the Cru knows all about the challenge the team faces on Saturday.

"They have a really good team with really good players and we feel like we have a really good team with really good players," Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. "Games like this are the reason you play and coach in this game and we are looking forward to the opportunity to go play against Mount Union."

Mount Union has posted an overall record of 180-7 since the start of the 2000 season while UMHB has gone 139-20 over that same stretch. The Cru is looking for its second Stagg Bowl appearance while the Raiders have been to the national title game 15 times and have won 10 National Championships. Saturday's game will be broadcast by ESPN3.
