Suspected hit and run driver arrested for assault

Posted:
WACO -

A local man is arrested after being involved in a traffic crash in which the victim attempted to flee from the suspect for her safety. Billy Ray Robinson has been charged with aggravated assault family violence and violation of a protective order that covered the victim.

Police say the incident happened December 2 in the 600 block of Dallas St. when Robinson and a woman began arguing in a car. The female victim became concerned for her safety and decided to try to force the car to crash so she could escape.

She grabbed the wheel and the car struck another vehicle driven by a third party. As the couple fled the scene, witnesses saw the suspected car's license plate number and reported the accident to police as a hit and run.

Officers responded to the address associated with the plate to the 600 block of Calumet, and found evidence that an assault had taken place. Police noticed the woman had been beaten in the face and had injuries to her hands and arms. She was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

Police say the protective order for the victim was due to Robinson's past history of violence to the her. But officers said it appeared that the couple was living together again.
