WACO -

Police are searching for two robbers who shot a store clerk in Waco Sunday night. The shooting happened around 9:20 p.m. at the Snacks convenience store on Reuters Avenue and N. 18th St.

Authorities say two black males, one armed with a handgun, went into the store in an attempt to rob it. The 48-year-old clerk was also armed with a firearm and exchanged gunfire with the suspects during the robbery.

The suspects then fled from the store, but later came back into the store and again exchanged gunfire with the clerk. The suspect and the clerk had a struggle over the weapons, and the clerk was assaulted in the head and face by the suspect and his weapon. The suspect was able to steal the victim's gun and undetermined amount of cash before fleeing from the store a second time.

The clerk had a gunshot wound to his leg, and was taken by ETMC to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. He is currently in stable condition.

Police are still searching for two suspects. One is described as bald, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 210 pounds and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and tan pants. The other suspect is described as thin build, short and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black shorts.
