Prosecutors seek death penalty for convicted felon

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a 36-year-old convicted felon who is accused of killing his wife and kidnapping her child in September. Police say Carnell Petetan Jr. shot his wife, Kimberly Petetan, multiple times at an apartment on East Lakeshore Dr. in Waco on September 23.

Petetan Jr. forced himself into her apartment before shooting her and then kidnapped her 9-year-old child. Police in Bryan found Petetan and the child in his car, and he was taken into custody.

He had been out of prison for less than six months after serving a 20 year sentence for an attempted murder when the incident occurred. The murder of Kimberly Petetan is classified as capital murder due to crime that was committed happened during the course of a burglary or kidnapping.

Petetan was indicted by a McLennan County Grand Jury on November 14.
