WACO -
A Waco woman is arrested and charged with theft of over $1500 after an investigation and recovery of the alleged stolen property.
Waco police conducted a traffic stop on a car driven by Ashanta Veree Howlett at the intersection of Dallas and Lenox St. on November 14 for a traffic violation. When the officer walked up to the car, he noticed a large quantity of clothing and other items in the vehicle. Some of the items still had the store tags on them.
The occupants of the car gave vague and conflicting stories about the origin of the items. The items were all seized and officers began the investigation.
Items that were confiscated came from Old Navy, the Gap and Lane Bryant. The named stores were given photos of Howlett and asked to review their store videos. Authorities determined that the items recovered appeared to have been taken from the store without being paid for.
Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Howlett, and arrested her at her apartment without incident.
