Woman helps save family from late night house fire

A woman alerts her family to get out of their home when a fire erupted late Monday night. The fire destroyed a home at 1536 Blue Cut around 11 p.m. last night.

According to Julie Ivy from the Heart of Texas Red Cross, a 34-year-old woman, her father and three boys were inside the home when the fire broke out. The woman was awaken to the smell of smoke, and proceeded to wake up the rest of her family members.

Fire Chief Mike Alton says half of the home was engulfed in flames. Officials believe the fire started inside the wall near the fireplace.

The family was able to get out of the burning home safely and no one was hurt. The Red Cross assisted the family after the fire, and are now staying with relatives.
