KILLEEN -

A 2-year-old girl fell into a backyard pool Tuesday morning.  It happened around 9 a.m. at a home on Solomon Drive in Killeen when the mother and child were in the backyard.

According to police, the mom went inside the home and left the girl alone for a brief moment, but returned to find her daughter in the water.

The mom pulled the toddler out of the water immediately called police for help.  She began performing CPR on the child until paramedics arrived.

EMS workers arrived and began trying to revive the girl.  The toddler was transported to the Killeen Civic Center parking lot, where a medical helicopter was waiting.

Authorities said the girl is in critical condition.
