9 cars, 4 trucks involved in Interstate 35 collision, including one fatality

CENTRAL TEXAS, TX (KXXV) -

One person is confirmed dead after 13 vehicles, including four semi-trailer trucks, collided on Interstate 35 Monday afternoon. Traffic has been halted on the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 as emergency crews have tried to clean up the highway and rescue victims of the crash.

Police from the Central Texas area including state troopers and fire fighters have reported to the scene. One person was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

One of the 18-wheelers involved in the wreck had the side of the cab peeled off.

A white Acura is still trapped under the trailer of one of the 18-wheelers in the opposite direction of the flow of traffic. The driver is still inside the vehicle, and the victim's status is undetermined.

The exit at mile marker 314 is closed, and traffic has been diverted to the nearby service road. Authorities say it will be several hours until the highway is cleaned up.
