Convicted felon indicted for capital murder

A 36-year-old convicted felon was indicted by a McLennan County Grand Jury Wednesday for the murder of his wife.

The murder occurred on September 23 at an East Lakeshore Drive apartment when Kimberly Petetan died from multiple gunshot wounds. The alleged suspect, Carnell Petetan Jr., forced himself into her apartment before shooting her.

Petetan Jr. was found with the victim's 9-year-old child with him in a vehicle, and he was taken into custody by Bryan police. He had been out of prison for less than six months after serving a 20 year sentence for an attempted murder when the incident occurred.

The murder of Kimberly Petetan is classified as capital murder due to crime that was committed happened during the course of a burglary or kidnapping. The McLennan County District Attorney's Office hasn't decided if they will seek the death penalty.
