Softball Announces 2013 Signing Class

Head coach Glenn Moore welcomes five student-athletes to Baylor.

WACO, Texas — Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Wednesday. The class is made up entirely of high school athletes from the state of Texas.

"The strength of this class is summed up in one word, passion," Moore said. "These student-athletes have a passion to play and more specifically to represent Baylor University doing so. We have a good, versatile group joining Baylor Softball today and they come with high expectations."

Riley Browder, IF/OF, Coldspring, Texas (Coldspring Oakhurst HS)

Browder is a three-year letterwinner out of Coldspring Oakhurst High School where she was a first team all-district 22-3A selection and Team MVP in 2012. Browder, whose brother Kolt is a senior pitcher on the Baylor baseball team, was a second-team all-district pick as a freshman and a member of Firecrackers-May Gold club team.

"Riley brings much needed depth to our middle Infield and also plays the outfield," Moore said. "She is a scrappy athlete, mechanically sound and a hard worker. Riley is a coach's dream and will contribute wherever she is needed. "

Lindsey Cargill, IF, Robinson, Texas (Robinson HS)

Cargill is a local product from Robinson High School where she is a three-year lettwrwinner.  She earned 2012 TGCA all-state recognition and 19-3A district first-team after hitting .530 with seven home runs. A three-time Super Centex honoree, twice being named to the first-team, Cargill helped guide the Rockets to the state semifinals in 2010 and was named to the state all-tournament team. She burst onto the scene as a freshman, hitting .569 with 20 RBI and 25 steals and being named District Newcomer of the Year. In 2011, Cargill was named District MVP. She plays club for Buzz Fastpitch-Waller Gold.

"Lindsey will make an immediate impact on the Big 12," Moore said. "She is a fast power slapper and a combination of Brette Reagan and Harmony Schwethelm. She will be a fan favorite when you see her passion to play. Lindsey is a very intense middle infielder who can play a great outfield as well."

Christy Lisenby, OF, Flower Mound, Texas (Flower Mound HS)

Lisenby is a three-year letterwinner from Flower Mound High School. She is a two-time all-district selection and was named catcher of the year this past spring. Lisenby hit .408 in the regular season and was among the 5A area leaders with six home runs, 33 RBIs and 29 stolen bases in 2012. She plays club for Texas Glory-Shelton.

"Although we recruited her for outfield play, Christy has developed into a very good catcher," Moore said. "Personally, I believe she can play anywhere outside the circle and at a very high level. She has a good bat and will hit for average to all fields and can run. Look for her to move around a bit early as she can handle that responsibility well."

Samantha Montes, RHP/IF, Burleson, Texas (Burleson HS)

Montes is a three-year letterwinner at Burleson High School where she has helped guide the Elks to three-straight district titles. A two-time all-county MVP, Montes was named 2011 Under Armour Sophomore All-American after going 32-5 with a 1.71 ERA and adding eight home runs and 42 RBI with a .411 batting average. She earned TGCA 4A all-state honors and in 2011 and the first of her two Dallas Morning News all-area selections. Through her first three seasons, Montes has compiled a 101-12 record and 768 strikeouts. She plays club for Texas Glory-Shelton.

"Sam has been considered one of the biggest offensive threats in Texas for the past three years," Moore said. "She can bring it in the circle as well with one of the best drops in the country. She also plays a strong corner and has been a three, four or five-hole hitter for the Texas Glory-Shelton."

Sarah Beth Toben, RHP/OF, Waco, Texas (Reicher HS)

Toben is a three-year letterwinner at Reicher High School where she helped guide the Lady Cougars to the 2010 3A TAPPS state championship with a 10-strikeout performance and a return to the state semifinals in 2012. A member of TAPPS 3A first-team all-state in 2010 and 4A all-state in 2012, Toben earned first-team 2-4A all-district honors in 2012 and was District MVP in 2011. She plays club for Cen-Tex Buzz-Waller.

""Sarah Beth is very athletic and versatile," Moore said. "She has a high ceiling as a pitcher and already swings the bat really well. She will be in the mix of several good corner players coming in over the next couple of years and will certainly challenge for pitching time in the circle.  She is one of two signee's form the Cen-Tex Buzz- Waller and her father is Brad Toben, the Dean of our prestigious Baylor Law School."
