WBB Inks Four in Early Signing Period

Lady Bears land impressive group.

WACO, Texas - Four high school women's basketball standouts have signed National Letters of Intent for 2013-14, Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey announced Wednesday. Signing to attend Baylor were Khadijiah Cave, Nina Davis, Breanna Hayden and Imani Wright.

"We like to put pieces together that complement each other, our current team and our future. In this class we have the size, speed and athleticism that will allow us to continue to compete for championships. As always, we want to recruit the state of Texas hard and we believe we have the best guards in the state coming to Baylor. In addition to getting the best talent in Texas we will continue to recruit the best players across the country," said Mulkey.

•Khadijiah (KK) Cave, 6-4, post , Augusta, Ga. (Lucy Laney High School)

Cave, in addition to excelling in basketball is the pitcher on her high school softball team, runs the 400 and is on the cross country team. She averaged 17.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 5.0 steals per game while shooting 56 percent from the floor under high school coach Otis Smart. Cave played AAU basketball with Big South Dream Team.

"Khadijiah is a long post player with athleticism and speed. She will give us a presence that we will not have at that point.  KK is hard working, has a strong work ethic and has a strong desire to reach her potential at the highest level," said Mulkey.

 • Nina Davis, 6'1, forward, Memphis, Tenn. (Memphis Central High School)

Davis is the top ranked player in the state of Tennessee and is ranked seventh at her position nationally and No. 52 overall.  Last season as a junior, she averaged 19.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.6 steals while leading her high school to the 3A state title under head coach Niki Bray. Davis played AAU basketball with the Tennessee Flight.

"Nina is a lefty that can play a variety of positions. She is tough-nosed, physical and athletic and will bring that grittiness to our program. Nina has a motor that will not quit and she doesn't mind mixing it up. In addition, she is a strong student," said Mulkey.

 • Breanna (BreBre) Hayden, 5-10, guard, Dallas, Texas (Madison High School)

Hayden is very familiar with the Lady Bear program, she's the younger sister of BU senior Kimetria "Nae-Nae" Hayden. As a junior, Hayden averaged 26.0 points and 9.0 rebounds a game for Madison HS head coach Olivia Williams. She is ranked No. 13 at her position and No. 82 nationally. Hayden played AAU basketball with DFW Elite.

"BreBre is much like her sister in that she is a tenacious and fearless competitor. She brings mental toughness and versatility to our program. Because of her high basketball IQ, she will be able to play multiple positions. The Hayden family has instilled hard work and toughness into their family and we will see those same attributes in BreBre," said Mulkey.

 • Imani Wright, 5-11, guard, Hooks, Texas (Liberty-Eylau High School)

Wright, the top-ranked player in the Texas, ranks seventh at her position nationally and No. 31 overall.  As a junior last season, she averaged 16.0 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game.  Wright won five gold medals at the UIL state track meet as a jumper and sprinter and claimed a state championship her freshman year. She plays for Robert Cochran at Liberty-Eylau High School and played AAU basketball with the Arkansas Mavericks.

"Imani is the epitome of a student-athlete, she is an unbelievable person and her work ethic and self-motivation will serve our program well both on and off the court. She is a young lady mature beyond her years. Athletically, Imani brings us size and the ability to score in a variety of ways. We also see her as being a good defender due to her leaping and sprinting ability," said Mulkey.
