Lacy-Lakeview Officer shot; suspect identified

Posted:

A police officer who was shot while on duty is recovering at home on Thursday night. He was wounded while responding to a suicide threat call. The shooting suspect, 21-year-old Keith McAdams, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.

Around 5 p.m. A Lacy-Lakeview neighborhood became flooded with police officers, state troopers, deputies and a swat van after the officer was wounded.

You could feel the intensity as they all geared up for what could have been deadly.

"Any time where there's a call where there is a possible fire arm or a suspect that's threatening himself and anyone else the danger level get's extremely high," said Lacy-Lakeview City Manager Keith Bond.

Two officers responded to a call that a man was threatening his life on Bobcat Street. The officers approached the house but got no answer.

As one of the officers, Officer Roy Wood, headed back to the patrol car he was shot through a garage door. He was hit in the back of the upper arm and the bullet exited through his shoulder. The other officer called for help.

It was quite a scary scene for neighbors nearby.

"As soon as he opened the door the cop turned around and told him get back in the house! Get back in the house! Get back in the house you can't come outside!" explained Brandon Trent, who was on his way to see a friend in the area.

Then a swat team surrounded the house, ordering the man to come out. An hour later McAdams and another man who was inside the residence surrendered. The other man inside the home was later released.

Luckily Wood's injuries were not life threatening. He was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and was released shortly after.

"We're just very thankful that the officer is in very good condition with very minor injuries," said Bond.
