WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball will hold its annual Burgers on the Berm event at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at Baylor Ballpark. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated and all proceeds go directly to support the Baylor Baseball Diamond Girls.
An autumn tradition on the Baylor campus, Burgers on the Berm is hosted by the Heart of the Order. The event gives fans a chance to meet the players and get a glimpse of the 2013 team during an intrasquad scrimmage – the Green & Gold Game.
Baylor returns 17 letterwinners from a squad that went 49-17 and won the program's third Big 12 title. Nathan Orf, the 2012 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, returns for the Bears after a recording-setting 2012 junior campaign. Orf (DH) batted .303 with 31 RBI and set a program record by being hit by pitch 35 times. The Bears also bring back starters Michael Howard (LHP/OF), Lawton Langford (IF), Jake Miller (IF), Adam Toth (OF) and Cal Towey (3B/OF).
BU finished Big 12 play with a 20-4 record, which was the second-best winning percentage by any team in league history. The Bears, who finished the 2012 season ranked No. 9 or No. 10 in all four major national polls, won its first regional since 2005 and came up one win shy of the school record and its fourth trip to the College World Series.
Baylor adds 10 newcomers to the 2013 squad, including two junior college transfers. Hunter Abbe, Ben Carl, Matt Menard, Mitch Price, Joe Sabatini, Drew Tolson, West Tunnell, Sterling Wynn all joined the program after completing their high school careers. Brett Doe (Navarro College) and Bobby McCormack (Angelina JC) are both junior college transfers who will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Season tickets and renewals for Baylor's 30-game 2013 home schedule go on sale in December and will be made available online at www.baylobears.com/tickets, in person at the Baylor Athletics Ticket Office or via phone by calling 254-710-1000. Single-game tickets go on sale in February.
