GOLDTHWAITE -
The bond for a new high school at Goldthwaite ISD has been denied for a second time in a year. 56 percent of voters voted against the bond, while 44 percent voted for the district's plan to construct new facility.
Goldthwaite ISD board members were very disappointed with the result of Tuesday's bond election, but they were very surprised by the voter turnout on Tuesday as compared to the election in May. When the bond issue denied by only 11 votes, but deficit margin was much larger this election.
Goldthwaite ISD Board of Education President, Rich Brown, said although he is disappointed with the result he is still optimistic for the future.
"It is one of those things were we continue to put the message out and actually show a factual basis for what you are trying to do and eventually the bond will pass and we will be able to do something for our kids," Brown said.
Brown said he the next time the school board meets they will discuss possible changes that may be made to the bond proposal, but he said he is optimistic the bond will pass in the future.
"We have been told multiple times by everyone that has tried to pass the bond that it is not unusual for a bond to fail the first time or two and not pass until the third time," Brown said. "I think it takes a while I think for a lot of us to let the information sink in and get to enough people to actually realize what the situation is at their school."
