City council members to vote on Humane Society deal

After months of controversy, Waco's Humane Society and the city have apparently come to an agreement how to operate that shelter.

At first the city halted its plans to take over all the shelter's operations. Now both are moving towards a new deal that looks very similar to how the shelter was run before. The only details that are changing are funding and how long animals will have to be adopted.

In exchange for allowing the Humane Society to stay at its location the shelter will provide equipment that's on hand and run the adoption and redemption services.

The city will continue to provide shelter, food and water as well as vaccines and treatments for 30 days for the animals, as long as there's enough space.

The city would no longer pay the shelter $300,000 a year for operating costs, but the Humane Society will keep adoption fees.

The new contract would begin December 1st for one year, but can be extended for two more years if both parties agree.
