Goldthwaite ISD tries to pass bond for second time

Residents in Goldthwaite will be voting for the second time this year on a bond that could build a new high school. The nearly ten million dollar bond failed to pass in May by just 11 votes.

Goldthwaite ISD board members spent almost two years creating the first proposal, but believe they didn't have enough time to educate people about the purpose of the bond. The bond plan to improve the technology and security features in the new building.

School board members say the proposed $13 million project will be cheaper by building a new facility, rather than renovating the old one. Board members also attributed low interest rates and low construction costs to help make the decision to build easier.

President of the Goldthwaite Education Board, Rich Brown, says he is confident that the proposal will past this time.

"It is the one tax we know where everything goes. It is going right there. You see it everyday. We can serve the kids of Goldthwaite for another 50 to 60 years," Brown said.
