Local business' building severely damaged in morning fire

BELLMEAD, TX (KXXV) -

An early morning fire completely destroys the Texas Meter & Device building in Bellmead on Monday. Law enforcement shut down northbound and southbound lanes on U.S. Highway 77.

The fire at building on 1509 N. Dallas Rd. began when the fire alarm turned on at 1:50 a.m. Fire crews continued to battle the flames and smoke at 7 a.m. The last fire units didn't clear the scene until 4 p.m., and both the warehouse and offices at the building were destroyed.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no one has been confirmed injured from the fire.

The building was previously the home of a famous nightclub, The Terrace Club, before it became the home of the manufacturing and warehouse facility. Texas Meter & Device has been fixing electric meters and serving nearby rural electric cooperatives in the Central Texas Area since 1937.
