WACO -
Baylor University is getting two new federal grants to help fight Gulf War Illness, which affects around 175,000 Gulf War veterans.
The $1.6 million grant brings the funding for the university's research program to over $2.3 million. This money will help the university fund three projects it has planned. One project will be a joint study with Scott and White Healthcare that will look at the brain and immune system.
Baylor epidemiologist Lea Steele says the project should give a better picture of the processes that drive veterans' symptoms. These symptoms include chronic headaches and memory problems.
