UPDATE: Witness says teacher did not duct tape students

KILLEEN - New details are coming out about the Killeen Middle School teacher accused of duct taping a student's mouth shut.

A fellow classmate says that's not what happened.  He says teacher Williams had duct tape because he was fixing a student's book.  Jordan says his teacher gave three students duct tape, because they wanted it.

"The teacher called Devin up and started scolding him because of his behavior," Jordan said.  "After all that was done, Devin noticed duct tape on the table and asked if he could have it on... Devin chose the sizes.  He picked three pieces and put it on."

He said the students put the tape on themselves, and the teacher asked them to take it off after a few minutes.  Of the three kids that had duct tape on their face, witnesses said Devin was the only one who refused to take it off.

"For about 15 to 20 minutes, Devin finally did take the tape off and started scratching his skin, causing it to turn red," Jordan said.

The classmate's mother says they're now filing a police report saying Devin put it on himself.

"We have a teacher whose not only life, his career and his reputation is on the line for something that I'm hearing from my son has nothing to do with the teacher," Linda Glidden said. "I don't think he's a bad teacher.  He might've made a bad judgment call, which everybody does in their lifetime, but it definitely does not even justify being suspended."

KILLEEN - A Palo Alto Middle School teacher is accused of putting duct tape on a student's mouth.  District officials said teacher Clarence Williams has been placed on paid administrative leave as of last week, pending investigation results.

Devin, 11, says his math teacher put three strips of duct tape over his face, making it hard for him to breathe.

"Mr. Williams called me up to the classroom.  I said, 'What Happened?' He said, 'It's not what's happening, it's what's gonna happen to you.'" Devin said.  "So then he grabs out the duct tape and tapes twice across my mouth and then once up here to my nose."

Devin says he stayed like that for the rest of the class period, what estimates to be at least 30 to 45 minutes. At the end of the class period, he says his teacher told him to take the tape off.  But when he tried to pull the tape, some of his skin came off with it.

His father told News Channel 25 his son's mouth was peeling and swollen.

"He had all this residue on his mouth and on his neck, and couldn't take it off with soap and water," Ernesto Ortiz said.  "It took the nurse about an hour to take it off with ice and Vaseline."

The student says he's afraid of his teacher, and doesn't know why he was punished that way.

"Why would he do that?  I was like, I could hardly even breathe," Devin said.  "I just felt thrown away and I really got scared."

Devin's father says they are working with police and hope criminal charges will be filed against the teacher.

"They're supposed to protect your kids and keep kids from being bullied, and here goes that teacher putting duct tape on my kid's mouth," Ortiz said.  "There's two other kids that got duct tape put on their mouths, too.  I don't know what their parents are doing, but I don't like it."
