NEW YORK – Baylor senior point guard Pierre Jackson has garnered honorable mention recognition on the Associated Press preseason All-America team, adding to a list of awards that includes Big 12 Conference Preseason Player of the Year.

Jackson was one of 17 players to earn an honorable mention in the AP preseason voting. The six-member All-America team features Cody Zeller (Indiana), Doug McDermott (Creighton), Isaiah Canaan (Murray State), Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State), C.J. McCollum (Lehigh) and Trey Burke (Michigan).

Jackson was joined on the honorable mention list by Kenny Boynton (Florida), Lorenzo Brown (North Carolina State), Aaron Craft (Ohio State), Jamaal Franklin (San Diego State), Solomon Hill (Arizona), C.J.  A Las Vegas, Nev., native, Jackson led Baylor with 13.8 points, 5.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game in his debut season in Waco last year. His 223 total assists were the second-highest single-season total in program history, and he posted double-figure points in 27 of 38 games, including an average of 17.6 points per game in the last eight contests.

Jackson earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and was named honorable mention AP All-American. Among returning Big 12 players, Jackson ranks first with 1.8 steals per game, second with 5.9 assists per game and third with 13.8 points per game.

Baylor, which is ranked No. 19 in the AP preseason poll, opens the regular season against Lehigh at 4 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the Ferrell Center. That game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest as part of Baylor's third-tier television package, and it will feature a pair of AP preseason All-Americans in Jackson and McCallum.
