Soccer Trio Makes All-Big 12 Second Team

Bears place three players on league's second team and two on newcomer squad.

IRVING, Texas – For the first time since 2001, the Baylor soccer team had multiple players recognized on the All-Big 12 team as Carlie Davis, Dana Larsen and Kat Ludlow earned a place on the second team, the league office announced Monday.

Davis started all 19 regular-season games for the Bears as a defender, while matching up against the opponent's best offensive player in each contest. The senior is part of a Baylor defense that has set a program record for shutouts in a season with 12. BU has only allowed nine goals all year and leads the Big 12 in goals against average (0.44).

On the offensive side of the ball, Larsen garnered the second-team distinction after leading the Bears in points (23), goals (9), assists (5) and shots (70). The senior forward has had four game-winning goals this season and currently ranks tied for fourth on the all-time Baylor scoring list with 27 goals.

Like Davis, Ludlow has started each game as a part of the record-setting defense. Along with her defensive prowess, the junior is tied for third on the team in points with eight. She has three goals and two assists on the year, while also serving as BU's designated throw-in specialist.

This year marks the first since 1996 that the Bears have had three student-athletes on the second team.

Baylor also had two freshmen, forward Bri Campos and defender Katie Daigle, voted onto the Big 12's All-Newcomer Team.

Campos has 17 starts this season at the forward position. She has tallied two goals and three assists to rank tied fifth on the team with seven points. Both of her goals have been of the game-winning variety as she scored a golden goal to beat Texas Tech, 3-2, in double overtime on Oct. 5 and then netted BU's first goal in a 2-0 win over Iowa State on Oct. 21.

Daigle provided an early spark with a goal and assist over the course of the first two games of the season. Since that time, she has become a steady presence in the Baylor backfield with 14 starts in 19 games played, while posting another goal and another assist.

In regular-season play, the Bears finished 14-1-4 overall and 5-0-3 in Big 12 play. Baylor produced a perfect 9-0 record at home and tallied its most wins on the road since 1999 with a 5-1-4 mark.

BU is unbeaten in its last 15 matches and currently has an 11-match win streak at home. Baylor racked up its first unbeaten record in conference play since 1998 to earn the No. 2 seed at this week's Big 12 Championship.

Baylor will open its run at the event on Wednesday with an 8 p.m. match vs. No. 7 seed Oklahoma State in quarterfinal play. The match will be streamed live by the Big 12 Digital Network. For tickets to the 2012 Big 12 Soccer Championship visit sanantoniosports.org or call 210-820-2100
