WACO- A man who was stabbed outside a Waco-area club early Sunday morning is dead.

Officers responded to a call of a stabbing at 2:15 a.m. at Club Alazan at 6512 W. Waco Dr. Police found Anthony Levell Degrate, 24, stabbed in the chest. Witnesses said the stabbing occurred after a fight between multiple people broke out outside the club.

Police say the altercation first started between two vehicles in the parking lot of 6512 W. Waco Dr. The two vehicles then pulled onto the access road of Hwy. 84 and stopped at a red light. The suspect then got out of one vehicle and approached Degrate, who was a passenger in the other vehicle.

Degrate got out of the vehicle and began to physically fight the suspect. During the fight, Degrate was stabbed multiple times in the upper torso. An ambulance rushed Degrate to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.

Waco Police say Club Alazan has been on their radar because of frequent violent crime. Other incidents on club property include another stabbing and a robbery.

Officers are considering providing additional security at the club.

"We will certainly take a look at it and entertain thoughts and ideas and have several different agencies and one of our own units look at the issues going on there. See if there are additional steps that we can take to safeguard it," said Waco Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton.

A man who identified himself as a manger for the club says the stabbing happened at a nearby business and not on their property. That statement clashes with the police report.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with additional information that may help police solve this case should contact Waco Crime Stoppers at (254) 753-HELP.

Woodway Police, McLennan County Sheriff's Office and D.P.S. assisted Waco Police in their response. Waco Police Special Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Technicians are involved in the investigation.
