KILLEEN - Killeen police have arrested a Red Cross volunteer for stealing more than $117,000 from the organization.
Detectives arrested 25 year old David Allen Gilg III.
Red Cross officials became suspicious after reviewing disaster response records. They determined claims were being made involving fictitious clients. After finding more fictitious claims, the matter was turned over to the Killeen Police Department.
Detectives say that Gilg made 84 fictitious claims between January and September. Each claim was for between $1,000 and $2,000. Gilg would keep the debit card that was issued for the amount of the claim and withdraw the money himself.
Gilg is charged with Theft over $100,000, a second degree felony.
Gilg is being held in the Killeen City Jail until he is arraigned on Wednesday.
