FALLS COUNTY - The Falls County Sheriff's Office is notifying the public that they have received reports regarding an identity theft scam recently. The latest target of these scams have been local Bank of America customers.

Officials say the "scammers" attempt to obtain private financial information such as PIN numbers and passwords in an attempt to access bank accounts. These thieves use emails and text messages to obtain the information by appearing to be legitimate bank representatives.

Authorities remind citizens to never provide private financial information such as account numbers, passwords or PIN numbers over the phone or by text or email. They emphasize that legitimate financial institutions will not request such information from you.

If you have become a victim of one of these scams, then please report the incidents to your bank, credit reporting agencies and local law enforcement.
