Suspect wanted for discount store robbery

by Adam Shear

TEMPLE - The Temple Police Department is looking for a man who they say robbed a local discount store early Sunday morning.

Police say around 8:25 AM, they were called out to the Family Dollar Store, 805 W. Adams Ave., for a reported robbery.

According to police, an employee was leaving the store early Sunday to make a bank deposit when they were confronted by a man holding a gun. The suspect was inside the employee's car when he pointed the gun at the employee and ordered the victim to get in the car.  The employee was forced to drive the suspect away from the store and at some point during that car ride the suspect hit the employee in the head with his gun.

Police say the suspect eventually got out of the car near N. 13th St. and W. French Ave. and took off on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

Temple Police describe the suspect as a man, with a stocky build, around 5'7", last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark clothes, and a bandana covering his face.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery suspect's whereabouts is strongly encouraged to contact the Temple Police Department at (254) 298-5500.
