FAIRFIELD - A 15-year-old boy shot and killed himself in the park adjacent to Fairfield High School Tuesday morning.
Fairfield Asst. Police Chief William Rogillio said the incident with the sophomore occurred at 7:30 a.m. just after the teen had been on campus. Rogillio said they are still working to figure out if the teen had the gun with him in school before the incident happened.
School administrators did consider a lockdown, but decided it wasn't necessary. Fairfield I.S.D. Superintendent, Katie Ryan, released a message on the Fairfield I.S.D. website.
"Earlier this morning one of our HS students passed away due to an apparent suicide at the city park. At this time, F.I.S.D. is operating a regular school schedule. Crisis counseling is available at the HS and our campus counselors are available at our other campuses. Our prayers are with the family and young man," Ryan said.
Fairfield ISD Police are also working the case.
