Baylor Donates Dirt To Local Organization

By John Elizondo

WACO - Baylor University donated a large amount of dirt to a local organization for at-risk children.

The Talitha Koum Institute is a therapeutic nurture center focusing on the brain development of children with behavioral problems. Recently the institute decided to permanently close their junior Olympic-sized pool, and needed an extraordinary amount of dirt to fill it.

Baylor University contacted the Talitha Koum Institute and notified them that through the process of renovating their baseball fields, they had a large amount of dirt to donate.

Talitha Koum Institute's Jan Wengler said, "We were sent an e-mail from Baylor that they had a lot of dirt that they could use to help us fill up the pool. And within a couple days we were hauling dirt."

The university's donation saved the institute $20,000. The newly formed land will be used for outdoor classrooms and a learning garden for the children.
