WACO - Just days after the Humane Society of Central Texas fired its director, the non-profit is undergoing another major change.
The Humane Society has announced a partnership with the city of Waco to help run and manage some of their operations.
Under the agreement Waco would operate the shelter and the kennels, which both sides believe will allow the Humane Society to concentrate more on the welfare of the abandoned animals they house.
"From the Humane Society's prospective we're going to get to do what we do best," said Don Bland, the interim director of the Humane Society of Central Texas. "We're not going to be having to run the kennels and we can concentrate more on being advocates for the animals and working with fosters and rescues."
Bland added the partnership will likely be a work in progress, but he believes it will improve the shelter's efficiency dramatically. He believes it will help the Humane Society find more animals homes than they have been able to.
According to the Humane Society, this partnership has been in the works for several and has nothing to do with the firing of former director Gina Ford.
The Humane Society added they are still searching for a permanent director and Bland will continue to serve as the interim director until the position is filled.
The partnership will begin when the current deal between the city and the Humane Society expires.
